Stop Programs from making your startup slow

By Mitz

Every time you startup your computer there are always a few unnecessary programs starting up in the background. This slows the boot process down. There are two ways to control which application launches at startup. One way is to use a program like Tweak UI, or you can change it manually yourself. Here's how...

  1. Click the Start button (left bottom of screen) or the windows key on your keyboard.

  2. Then choose the Run.

  3.  In the text box type msconfig

  4. Then choose the Startup TAB

  5. Simply un-tick the ones you would like to disable.

  6. Then Press Apply and then OK.

  7. It will ask you to re-boot your computer.

  8. When you restart it a window comes up  that says you have chosen Selective Startup. Just Tick the box, Do not show this window again and then click OK.

NOTE: Do not change anything you are not sure of. The bottom three programs on the list above are not necessary. There is a Device detector, Acrobat reader, and Microsoft Office. I can stop these from using my startup resources. However I definitely do not want to turn my firewall off, which is further up on the list.

Watch a short movie on how to make your computer start faster.
