Restoring
Explorer.exe - Lost Desktop in Windows XPFree computer help by Mitz
Sometimes everything disappears from your desktop (computer crashes) when an
error occurs in a program you are using. This is actually Windows Explorer that
has closed. You will notice that the desktop icons, the taskbar, and
sometimes the start menu all disappear. Here are some tricks I use to restore
my desktop without having to restart the computer.
If you ever lose the Desktop but Explorer is still running with the Start
Button showing,
you can do this to bring back your Desktop in a Windows box.
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Type " . "
- Then press Enter
|
|
If Explorer is not available either, Which
includes the taskbar and start menu, then you can restart it yourself by doing
the following.
- Press Ctrl, Alt and delete
at the same time. This will show
the task manager.
- Make sure you are on the Application Tab.
- Down the bottom there are three choices, choose
New Task.
- Type Explorer.exe and then OK.
This will restore Windows Explorer.exe and
now you will see the taskbar, start menu, and icons again. |
