How to organize my photo collection on my computer

There is nothing worse than having to search you entire computer for a particular photo because they are not organized properly. Try looking for a photo with only dates for folder names and numbers for the picture names.

It is just impossible. This is why it is so important that you organize your photo collection.

Tips to organize your photo collection on your computer

Always transfer your photos to the same folder on your computer. Just make a subfolder for the new editions. The default folder is my pictures folder.
Always name photos that you are storing with meaningful names... How are you going to remember what 100003.jpg is?
Put a date on the categories folder as well as a name.
Choose a image file format that takes up less space. Here are the different image file types.
Have at least two copies of your photo collection, on separate devices or disks.

My picture folder is in the My Documents folder.
You can also customize your folders by putting a picture on the front of them.. Here's how to customize your folders. This is handy to distinguish between them all.
When you have a large enough photo collection in your my pictures folder you should backup your photos on to cd.
