Appearing offline on Windows Live Messenger can be very handy when you want to chat to a contact and avoid another one from seeing you. Sometimes you just don't feel like talking to certain people.

  1. Open windows live messenger

  2. Go to where it says your display name.

  3. Click on the little arrow and go down to appear offline.

See picture or Video for more information.

Watch this quick video showing how to change your status on Windows Live Messenger to appear offline.

Notes:

  • You can also appear busy, away, in a call, brb and out to lunch, however people can still try to contact you.

  • You cannot connect to other computers using help and support if you appear offline.

  • You cannot use your sharing folder when you appear offline.
