Disable
or enable the User Account Control (UAC) in Windows Vista
By Mitz
Free computer Tips
The
first noticeable difference between windows xp and windows vista is
that vista has that annoying User Account Control. It pops up to
confirm everything you want to do. Even though it may be helpful for
a new computer user, the average power user just thinks it is a
total waste of time.
|
User Account Control (UAC) is a feature in
Windows
Vista that can help prevent unauthorized changes to your
computer.
User Account Control (UAC) does this by asking you for
permission or an administrator password before performing
actions that could potentially affect your computer's operation
or that change settings that affect other users.
The best way to use User Account
Control
You can create standard user
accounts for all the users who share the computer,
but if they want to install or alter any settings an
administrator password must be entered. This way everyone using
the computer will require the password to change any settings. |

How to enable or disable the User
Account Control in Windows Vista
- Make sure you are signed in an administrator account.
- Click on the Start
Menu.
- Choose control
Panel from the menu.
- Double click on the User Accounts
icon.
- Choose Turn User Account Control on or
off from the menu.
Another way to disable the User Account Control?
- Press the WIN KEY and the letter R
on your keyboard.
- The run box will appear. Type in msconfig.
- This will open the System Configuration Window.
- Go to the Tools tab.
- Scroll down to find Disable User Account Control
(requires reboot).
- Then press on launch.

How to disable the UAC in Windows Vista
without loosing your UAC security?
The UAC will
still look after your security of your computer but you will not see the
annoying prompt asking you to cancel and allow.
-
Press the
WIN KEY and the letter R to bring up the run box.
-
Type in
regedit and press enter.
-
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr
entVersion\Policies
-
Then in the list under policies you will see system. Select this by
making it blue.
-
Now in the right column right click on
ConsentPromptBehviourAdmin and choose to modify.
-
Change the value of ConsentPromptBehaviorAdmin from 2
to 0.

Notes:
-
If you are a new user you should leave the
User Account Control enabled. It will stop you from changing the wrong
things on your computer.
-
Windows Vista does not like it when you
disable the User Account Control. It will ask you if you realize
that you have disabled it.
