Disk Defragmenter stops and can't move a certain file

Question to Tips4pc

When I run The Windows Disk defragmenter it goes along nicely, until it gets stuck on a certain file. Then it will come up with an error message saying that it could not defrag this volume because some files could not be moved.
I checked to see what files can't be moved and they all had something to do with Windows Update. Would it be alright to remove these files and try to defrag then?

I look at the microsoft website and noticed that they basically say that it could be a virus causing the disk defragmenter to stop or hang. If it is a virus, is it eating my system away?

You may have a problem with your file system. Sometimes check disk can help.. Go to my computer> Right click on your hard drive> Choose the tools tab> click on check disk.

If it does't you may be right about the virus. OH NO!!

try to download the latest trial of avast antivirus and let it do a full system scan to try to pick up any virus in the system files, it does really sound like a virus and just cause you have a antivirus don't mean it will pick it up. i like to try a couple of different antivirus programs to be sure and then uninstall the trial after you are finished
