I have read the articles on the main pages of tips 4 pc that tell you how to speed up your computer. But I am not good with computers and files. Last time I tried to clean my computer I deleted important files that caused my to get a blue screen. And that was it for me. I had to get a computer guy to re-install window xp for me. It cost $300 by the time he had installed everything.
Now that I have read something on how to clean up files I am still a bit scared that I will end up having to pay all that money again.
Do you think I should get the computer guy to clean it for me?

It does seem a bit scary, however if you just use the system tools in Windows XP you can't go wrong. Its when you start deleting files manually that causes the big problems. I suggest you just use Defrag, Disc Cleanup, and maybe disable a few startup programs. You can also try removing programs that you installed yourself, and now no longer use. Do not un-install anything if you do not know what it is.

Yes, you need to try it or you will never learn. Like mitz said, only do what is in the system tools section in Windows.

you can also try taking off programmes that you no longer use
go to the control panel
then click on the add remove programmes
this is the safest way to uninstall programmes from your puter
remember the more programmes on the hdd the slower the puter will be
hope this helps you a little more
and remember the more you look at the puter and different files the more you will learn
cheers
