How important is PR (page Rank)?????

The main page of this site got ranked today. It went straight to number 4 and I am very pleased with this. Hopefully this will bring me more trafic from the big search engines..LOL

Anyway, I know there is alot of gossip going around about google page rank at the moment. A lot of sites have lost a few points and others have gained some. Getting a number 4 is double what I thought I would be getting. I just hope I will not have to loose points like everyone else did.
