Emailed Question to Tips4pc

Hi,
I have a Windows xp home edition pc and a Windows Vista Home Premium Laptop. They both can "see" each other in "My Network Places" and "Network" in xp and Vista respectively (Vista can even see the shared folders in xp) but the problems are:

1) I can't get into the shared folders of my Vista laptop from my xp pc
2) I can't get into my XP shared folders from my Vista Laptop except the "Shared Documents" folder that appears when you go to My Computer in XP.

I have watched labrats episode 98 about xp and vista networking but they don't say a lot about how to solve the problem in Home Edition of Windows XP. Any help would be apreciated.

Thanx

Mitz

What anti-virus, anti-spyware, and firewall applications are you using on each machine? Have you tried to disable them and then tried sharing files. Also consider that the router might be the issue.

When windows file and printer sharing works - it is a great file sharing system. But, when it does not work it can be quite a tall order to figure out where the problem is occuring.
